 The Senior Data Scientist provides senior data science efforts for United’s loyalty program, MileagePlus. Leveraging some of the most complete member data available in any industry, the data science team is responsible for finding new opportunities to develop the program and new product opportunities with clever insights and models that shape business outcomes. This person will be expected to provide the example which other data scientists on the team can follow to better produce outcomes for the business.

 This role is a hybrid position based out of our Chicago office

 Key Responsibilities:

•  Approach Business Problems with Data Solutions
•  Communicate with collaborators on business challenges and opportunities
•  Provide insight into current data assets
•  Educate stakeholders on opportunities to model insights
•  Dig into business problems by experimenting with models that will need to be tested and validated
•  Refine existing models based on new data resources or changing business environments
•  Communicate with Stakeholders
•  Express the outputs of data science projects in a format that is understandable to business staff who are less-versed in technical details
•  Innovate on important metrics and provide expert consulting to business partners in collaborative meetings
•  Work with technology managers to troubleshoot data challenges
•  Develop strong presentation visuals for easy absorption of results
•  Mentorship
•  Provide best practice recommendations to team members on standard processes
•  Lead by example, documenting success and failures alike in order to build long-term knowledge
•  Influence decision-makers and peers alike toward a more data-centric view of problem-solving

Qualifications

 Minimum Qualifications:

•  Bachelor's degree
•  Business, marketing, or quantitative field (statistics, engineering, analytics, information systems, aviation management, or related degree)
•  5 years of experience in analytics role using relational databases hands-on
•  Experience working with large datasets for the purposes of statistical analysis such as supervised or unsupervised learning
•  Experience with database interface tools and statistical programming languages such as Python, SAS, R
•  Confirmed proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
•  Experience with statistical tools and programming (R, Python, SAS, or similar)
•  Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

 Preferred Qualifications:

•  Master's degree
•  Statistics, mathematics, or business analytics
•  1 year in core data science
•  1 year in the travel industry
•  1 year in marketing or loyalty studies
•  Experience presenting findings to business management
•  Experience mentoring team members on methods for development and evaluation of statistical models
•  Experience with Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI, or other visualization tools
